Strawberry Fields, Stuffed Squirrels and Glue Footed Bats! An array of randoms at this week’s Storytelling Group!

13/10/2026

That's one hell of a heading I know, and it was one hell of a night too! A night that went from strawberry fields, stuffed squirrels, glue footed bats and irrational fears of badgers (I own that one and the glue footed bats!).

The night flew by, as we all lovingly fought to get a word in edgeways. We were literally on storytelling fire, and realised this fact as we were near extinguished by the lovely staff at Downey's, to whist us enough to extract us from the bar!

I have to say that what I love most about this group is how very different it has been each week. If you are keeping up with our blogs, you will know that last weeks meeting was, I suppose, very heart felt, and we shared a lot of stories, that were at times very deep, and personal. It was a beautiful evening, and I feel the group formed a very true connection.

This week was just as beautiful, but so very different. I managed to squeeze in some of the prompts I had to extract some interesting stories from the group, which entertained us like no bodies business for a time!

For me, I always lament the things that have happened in people's lives, and even more so, I lament how these tiny snippets of people's lives may never have the chance to be told. I often hear stories from strangers on my travels, and it never ceases to amaze me how very colourful we all are, and how much we light up as we relive a time to share it with another that is willing to listen.

The curious nature I have for others stories, and one could say that I am just inherently nosey, and perhaps I am, but this curiosity is one of the many reasons I had for wishing to start this storytelling group. I also truly believe that there is a wonderful kind of therapeutic nature to the sharing of stories, and the last number of weeks has really confirmed this for me.

We spent some time discussing the future of the group, as this is but a 6 weeks pilot scheme. It is evident that we all share the same passion for stories. We can all sense the merit of these meetings and our curiosity for each other's lives grow with each passing week too. This latter note is important I feel, as we 'humans' navigate to experience a different kind of connection outside of our social media world.

So on a whole, this has been a great success and has become a great platform to grow the group from. We are really looking forward to the future of it!

See you all next week and be sure to keep yourself safe from glue footed bats!

Until then!
