As Luck Would Have It, We Had No Luck!
As luck would have it, luck was not on our side for our first Storytelling meeting!
This luck greatly depended on what side of the fence members of the group were sitting on, as some of the group were poorly and some had unexpected work commitments they had to attend to!
It was set to be a great evening. From my end, there was a lot of excitement and nerves for our first meeting. I practiced greetings in my head. I ran over the schedule multiple times. I wondered what stories would I tell or would I get a chance to get a word in edgeways with the pure excitement from the others.
So at 3pm the time to depart was coming upon me. I chose my outfit (cool but approachable). I even plucked my eyebrows but said I'd leave off shaving the hairs on my chin as that might come across as trying too hard!
Anyway, my bag was packed and I hopped onto my little bicycle to cycle to Clashmore to catch the 357 to heaven (Dungarvan isn't actually heaven but I'd say it's fairly close!) The heavy fog took a turn for the worst as I peddled like nobody's business and it started lashing, but that wasn't going to stop me!
Leaving myself enough time I parked my bike, chained it up at the GAA pitch and made my way down the hill to the bus stop. "This is it!" I said to myself "Here goes nothing!" and just as that thought came into my head I watched the 357 roll its way up the hill and steer off into the distance, 10 minutes before it was due to depart!
I swear by each and every hair on my chin that I ran like the clappers down that hill but to no avail. I was but a wailing mess and nothing else! I summed up my options and that didn't take long because I had none.
So I stood at the bus stop with my back pack and eco-friendly bag of biscuits bought especially for the occasion, kicked a stone and said "Well feck it anyway."
I made my calls to the members. Naturally those that couldn't make it were only pure delighted as they weren't going to miss the first night! First nights are very important I suppose. It's a chance for people to break ice and begin to form what we all hope to be a strong bond.
There was talk of the fairies playing a hand in this but on a whole there was much sympathy, understanding and a contentment that "sure look-it, isn't that just the way, at least we all still have our health!"
I had to dash back home (a 40 minute cycle up hill in the worsening weather) as I had failed to acquire one of the members contact numbers and had to make it back to my laptop to message her!
So on a whole I was very deflated BUT what an eventful way to start our storytelling journey. We may not have met in person but I suppose we sure have a great tale to tell of our first Storytelling meeting being jinxed by the fairies!
Side note:
If anyone has a direct link with the fairies could you have a chat with them and state that I didn't get any supermarket brand biscuits, that they were the real deal and could they cut me some slack next week please!
Thank you all for visiting our little Storytelling Blog.
Until next week!
